ANNUAL REPORT 2019

With the participants of Shelter Care Workshop

As the WHOCC for Disaster Risk Management for Health, several research projects have been conducted, such as developing guidance and training program for maintaining psycho-social well-being of disaster responders, identifying long-term health consequences among the elderly after an earthquake, and so on.

Disaster Risk Reduction is a national, regional and global concern. Enhancing networking among professionals is one of strategies to strengthen capacities for DRR. Professor Mashino attended the web and face to face meetings of Asia Pacific Emergency and Disaster Nursing Network as a core member, made a presentation at the annual research conference at Siem Reap, Cambodia on 15-16 of November 2018.

Evidence based approaches are essential to improve disaster response. However, it has been pointed out that the scientific evidence underlying the activity is inadequate. In October 2018, the WHO Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre ) hosted a meeting for identifying key research needs for health emergency and disaster. Professor Mashino attended the meeting as an expert of Disaster Nursing. In the meeting, several key documents regarding to Disaster Risk Management for Health were reviewed and five major areas of research need were identified.

The Centre conducted several workshops and meetings. In October, a workshop for nurse educators and clinicians was held to improve their educational activities for nurse students and clinical nurses in relation to disaster preparedness and response.
